How to have a phone-free date night (yes, we see the irony)

5 min read

We make an app, and we want you to use it for about ninety seconds per date. Unseal, scratch, put the phone away. Here is how to make the rest of the evening screen-free without it feeling like a rule.

Why phones cost more than they seem

Even a phone lying face-up on the table pulls attention. Every glance says, a little, “something else might be more interesting.” Across an evening, those small signals add up.

Give the phone one job, then a place

  • Use it for the thing it’s needed for, directions, the reveal, a photo, then put it in a bag or another room.
  • Pick a “phone spot” at home, like a bowl by the door.
  • Turn on Focus or Do Not Disturb with an exception for emergencies only.

Replace, don’t just remove

A gap left by a phone gets filled by the urge to check it. Fill it first: a question game, a walk, cooking something that needs four hands. The best phone-free dates are the ones where you forget to miss it.

Make one photo the rule

Agree to take exactly one photo together at the end. It becomes a small ritual of its own, and it’s the one you’ll remember the night by.
